Is it time for a vacation?

As court reporters, we’ve been known to work long hours sometimes at the expense of our own health. Is it time for a vacation? It might be. Ask yourself the last time you spent an extended period of time away from work. If you can’t recall anything recently, it’s time to step away for a few hours, days, or even a week.

What happens when you don’t take vacations?

Americans wear long hours and not taking vacations like a badge of honor but they shouldn’t.

Not taking vacations or small breaks throughout the day, puts you at higher risk for stress-related conditions like weight gain, elevated blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia, and heart attacks. In other words, if you don’t relax, your body will shut you down.

Small Breaks

We’ve all gotten caught up with work. Meeting deadlines can become like an obsession driven by money, accomplishment, or a sense of duty. Whatever the reason, you’ve got to remember the importance of taking a break by scheduling time during your day for healthy meals, exercise, and social time.

Use an app like Google calendar to block time for the activities that matter to you — working IN your business taking care of client activities like depositions, working ON your business networking or bookkeeping, and outside of work with family, friends, and pets.

This might sound weird but schedule time to be phone-free – that includes email, text, and social media. You’ll find that even stepping away for a couple hours for lunch with friends, you return with new ideas, increased creativity, and greater ability to focus.

Vacation Time

When we say vacation time, we don’t mean a weekend trip to see family. We mean sitting on a beach (or your favorite spot to get away from it all) without a phone in hand. Some of us even need to be in an area that doesn’t have cell service or Wi-Fi to gain the full recharging experience of a vacation. Find your happy vacation place and take time away from court reporting!

We guarantee the Sacramento area clients will be here when you get back!
